Антоний Гибрида: политическая карьера до заговора Катилины

В статье рассматриваются ключевые проблемы политической карьеры Г. Антония Гибриды вплоть до так называемого заговора Катилины. На основании проведенного анализа делаются следующие выводы: своими карьерными успехами Антоний был обязан главным образом своему происхождению и связям с Суллой и высокопоставленными сулланцами. Сулланское прошлое не оказало негативного влияния на его карьеру, а его неудачи можно скорее объяснить объективными причинами, нежели враждебностью какой-либо группировки к нему лично. Во время проскрипций Антоний, возможно, скупал имущество проскрибированных, но к убийствам отношения скорее всего не имел. Наиболее вероятно, что обмен провинциями между ним и Цицероном был инициирован последним, с тем чтобы заручиться нейтралитетом Антония на время обсуждения законопроекта Рулла. После этого Гибрида уже не обязан был сохранять нейтралитет, и если своими действиями он так или иначе наносил ущерб интересам оптиматов, которые защищал Цицерон, то причиной тому были либо семейные связи, либо стремление к личной выгоде.
