Взгляды Полибия на тактику: проблема традиций и инноваций

Статья посвящена проблеме соотношения традиций и инноваций во взглядах Полибия на тактику. Оставаясь в целом в рамках традиционного греческого взгляда на тактику, историк привносил туда ряд новых моментов. В своем труде он демонстрировал возросшее значение легкой пехоты, слонов, кавалерии и их взаимодействия с тяжелой пехотой. Полибий считал, что военачальники должны не только заблаговременно выбирать удобную позицию для сражения, но и уметь пользоваться особенностями местности уже в ходе битвы. Подобные взгляды были вызваны реалиями эллинистического времени. В этой ситуации возрастала и роль командиров всех рангов. Успеха достигало то войско, в котором эффективное командование сочеталось с автономными действиями отдельных подразделений. Полибий показывал возможность использования подобных инноваций в эллинистическом мире, но там они еще не вошли в систему и не стали нормой. Римляне же применяли данные новшества наиболее полно и успешно, в результате чего римская армия стала эффективным механизмом, способным одерживать верх над самыми разными противниками.
