Only a few fragments of Hellanicus of Lesbos contain mentions of real persons, and these fragments, for a obvious reasons, are of the greatest interest for a historian. The article analyzes one of such fragments (Hellan. FGrHist. 4. F170 = 323a. F24, from his Atthis), which mentions Andocides. The author makes a suggestion as to which of this name’s bearers could be the one Hellanicus wrote about, as besides the orator Andocides, several of his namesakes are known in Athens, all of them members of the same aristocratic family. The article offers some observations on the details of that family’s prosopography and genealogy. In addition, the author matches the fragment in question with another fragment of Hellanicus (Hellan. FGrHist. 4. F156) and argues that the latter also comes from the Atthis rather than from Hellanicus’ Troica, as is usually believed.
