On Poetic Fiction and Historical Truth: Concerning a Song Composed by Yu. G. Vinogradov

The article is dedicated to a song of Yu.G. Vinogradov, in which he, in a humorous manner, depicted the beginning of archaeological research on Berezan. He correctly connected this important event with the Archaeological Congress in Odessa (1884). The simultaneous participation of B.V. Farmakovskiy, G.L. Skadovskiy and E.R. von Stern in the excavations on the island is, of course, a fruit of the author’s imagination. However, the plot related to the conflict over the wine purchased with public money is true.
