«Полудержавный властелин»: евнух Багой в истории Ахеменидской империи

В статье детально исследуется деятельность евнуха Багоя, фактического правителя Персидской империи Ахеменидов в конце царствования Артаксеркса III Оха (359– 338 гг. до н.э.), Арсеса (338–336 гг. до н.э.) и в начале царствования Дария III Кодоманна (336–330 гг. до н.э.). Основная проблема, поднимаемая в данной статье, – почему Багой сумел столь возвыситься при царском дворе. В ходе рассмотрения основных вех карьеры Багоя делается вывод о том, что именно в качестве придворного евнуха он получил возможность оказывать неформальное влияние на царя Артаксеркса III, однако занятие им военных и административных должностей в Ахеменидской империи и, наконец, должности хилиарха, который обеспечивал охрану царя, контролировал доступ к нему посетителей и занимал фактически второе положение в государстве, позволило Багою не только эффективно влиять на принятие царем решений, но и самому решать многие текущие вопросы, связанные с проведением внутренней и внешней политики. При попытках Великого царя ограничить такую деятельность всемогущий евнух Багой устранял его физически. Такая судьба постигла Артаксеркса III и Арсеса, уготовил ее Багой и для Дария III, однако пришедший к власти при его помощи монарх сам убил Багоя. Кроме этого, в данной статье в рамках исследования деятельности Багоя рассматрива-ются более общие вопросы, связанные с положением евнухов в Персидской империи Ахеменидов, их ролью при царском дворе и влиянием на политику.
