Роль Агесилая в «деле Сфодрия»

В статье исследуется традиция о неудавшейся попытке спартанского гармоста Сфодрия захватить Пирей в 378 г. до н. э. Поскольку Сфодрий действовал без приказа, в Спарте он был привлечен к суду как государственный преступник. Своим неожиданным оправданием он полностью обязан царю Агесилаю. Анализ традиции о суде над Сфодрием приводит автора к выводу, что Агесилай держал под своим контролем весь государственный аппарат Спарты, включая судебную коллегию. В суде над Сфодрием мнение одного человека – царя Агесилая – решило исход голосования. Оправдательный приговор Сфодрию, инициированный Агесилаем, – весомое свидетельство возросшей роли царской власти в Спарте в первые десятилетия IV в. до н. э. (до битвы при Левктрах).
