The historical conception of Polybios is analysed here by means of comparing it with the theory of Stoa. The author considers various facts, such as fragments and terms from Polybios' «History» and the Stoic fragments, among which the concepts of фйац, Koivoq, слхггпцос, асоишоа,5г|<, ауакикХюац, zekoq, бшатгра, %а>ра ксаро<. The notion of фиск; in Polybios, as she maintains, was included in the conception of history. Special attention is paid to the question of causality. The investigation shows that Polybios' scheme must be enhanced by the concepts: оста (cause), лрбфастк; (reason), скрор|Д.Г| (occasion), otp%f| (beginning). The term dxpopuri serves to denote «causality» rather than «cause». Polybios used not only the method of causality, but also the method that reminded of some principles of modem hermeneutics. Plausibly, it was not due to a special influence of the Stoa on Polybios, but to a general tendency of the Hellenistic and Roman thought, which led to identical result. A research in Polybios' «History» shows that the historical way of thought was still opposed to the mythological tradition.
