From the History of Everyday Life: Taverns in the Ancient World

The posthumous paper, based on the text of I.S. Sventsitskaya's report, deals with the sociological aspect of meals in the ancient world. Using a wide range of oriental, Greek and Roman written sources, including inscriptions and papyri, the author touches upon some problems connected with organization of common meals and feasts, with taverns, guesthouses and social status of their hosts and guests.
