The paper presents an analysis of the reform of Achaean cavalry by hipparch Philopoemen in 210/219 BC as described Polybius (10. 23) and Plutach (Philop. 7. 4–6). The main purpose is to explain training and manoeuvres of the cavalry described in Polybius’ text. Philopoemen re- formed the training practice and probably armaments of his cavalry according to the Macedonian pattern.
